Welcome to Simply RC

Welcome to the first of what we hope will be many blog posts. It is here on the Simply RC Blog site that we talk about all things RC. There is so much within the radio-controlled car world to talk about that we were not sure where to begin. So, we decided to begin where we did and explain the best way to get started in this most fascinating of hobbies.

RC Cars – Where to begin?

When going into any hobby it is important to understand that you are limited on experience. This is particularly important in the RC world. If you go out on day one to buy a self-build petrol RC Car then you could be in for a shock. While you may well get instructions are you confident enough to build each part one piece at a time?

If you have read about us you will know the interest came from a small cheap radio-controlled car my son received as a present. It got us interested but when we went out to get something more powerful than one run on batteries we went for a electric ‘ready to run’ model. This meant all we had to do is charge the battery. After years of charging my mobile phone and shaver I felt this was within my capabilities.

The Next Step

Once we had learnt how to take corners at high speeds and how high the curb needs to be to not crash I decided that I wanted to know more. I went out and invested in an electric ‘self-build’ car.

My Self Build Investment – Self Build Raptor RC Electric Truggy

The reason I did this is because I wanted to understand the difference between brushed and brushless motors. I wanted to understand about types of battery. I wanted to know what the difference between 2WD and 4WD (Actually very simple) and I wanted to be able to close my eyes and visualise the building of the car in my head. I wanted to progress from driver to mechanic.

The best way to learn how to build a RC Car is to build an RC Car. It is only once you understand how the basics come together to form the vehicle that you can think of progressing onto faster more powerful cars such as those powered by nitro fuel.

Nitro RC Cars and Petrol RC Cars are far more powerful partly because of the fuel. Now if you are new to the hobby which if you are reading this I bet you are then do not worry yet. We will write further blog posts to help there. For now, order a ready to run electric car that you charge in the mains and enjoy getting used to how they run. After that you can order a self-build and really begin to understand how amazing the RC Car hobby truly is.
